Good morning, Newfound.
Tomorrow is November 11th, and we’ll be celebrating the national holiday of Veteran’s Day. At 11pm on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, World War I ended with an armistice. This holiday was originally named “Armistice Day” in memory of our soldiers lost in battle. Because the 20th century unfolded with another world war and several others, we now honor all of our war dead as well as those who have served to protect our freedoms. This includes not only our servicemen and women fighting and dying as we speak in both Afghanistan and Iraq, it also includes recognizing all veterans, some of whom are your teachers and other staff at the high school who have served honorably. Please join me in dedicating our moment of silence today to all our military personnel—past and present—as we reflect on their sacrifice for all of us and our nation.
